The number of students having to borrow from DUO, the Dutch Education Executive Agency, has grown since the basic grant was abolished. The amount they are borrowing has risen as well. In 2019, there were 1,413,700 people in the Netherlands with a student loan. The Dutch government was owed €19,300,000,000 in loans! This means that the average student loan is €13,700. You will need to pay back everything you borrow, so as a true Dutch student, you will be trying to save money and get the best deals.
