Description
The affordability and staffing capacity of healthcare are at stake. More is needed than just small savings and improvements. This calls for breakthroughs. The clock is ticking. It’s high time we learned from one another. The “not invented here” syndrome in healthcare must be addressed decisively before it’s too late. Healthcare needs brilliant business models. Fortunately, there are already various examples of these around the world. They are very different but also have something in common. They all started with the vision of making people healthier and better off and then found a business model to do so in a way that ultimately benefits everyone involved. Improving healthcare and health requires six breakthroughs. For each of these breakthroughs, four brilliant business models have been selected that demonstrate how it can be done. Strengthening community living and mutual care for health: Proveniershofjes, Stiftung Liebenau, Zorgerf, and Achmea. Solidarity and shared risk-bearing for healthcare and well-being: Algemeen Ziekenfonds Amsterdam (Zilveren Kruis), DHAN, M-PESA, and Ping An. Making prevention and self-management work: Sarphati, Kaiser Permanente, Discovery, and Healthways. Organizing care and information locally and digitally around the patient: PatientsLikeMe, ParkinsonNet, BerylHealth, and E-Estonia. Services that put customers in the driver’s seat of their care and health: Jaipur Foot, Aravind, Ryhov, and Cardiology Centers Netherlands. Delivering differentiated specialized care: Mayo Clinic, ThedaCare, Princess Margaret Cancer Center, and Narayana. This book is highly recommended by Ernst Kuipers, Marcel Levi, Douwe Biesma, Wilna Wind, Igor Tulevski, Roelof Konterman, Andre Rouwvoet, and Georgette Fijneman.
