Description
The affordability and accessibility of quality care are at stake. We need more than just small savings and improvements. This calls for breakthroughs. The clock is ticking. It’s high time we learned from one another. The “not invented here” syndrome in healthcare must be addressed decisively before it’s too late. Healthcare needs brilliant business models. Fortunately, there are already various examples of these around the world. They are very different, but they have the following in common: 1. They are driven by a vision to make people healthier and better. 2. They have a business model with a surprising mix of solidarity, self-reliance, and a human touch. 3. They know better than anyone how to serve the interests of all stakeholders simultaneously. Keeping healthcare high-quality, affordable, and widely accessible requires five breakthroughs. For each of these breakthroughs, four brilliant business models have been selected that demonstrate how it can be done. - Strengthening solidarity and mutual care: Algemeen Ziekenfonds Amsterdam, DHAN, Proveniershofjes, Stiftung Liebenau - Making prevention and self-management work: Discovery, Healthways, Kaiser Permanente, PatientsLikeMe - Organizing information and daily care around the patient: UCLA’s Value Quotient, ParkinsonNet, Laastari Lähiklinikka, Patrick Lund Dental Happiness - Services and tools to help customers take the wheel: Ryhov, BerylHealth, M-PESA, Jaipur Foot - Delivering on the differentiation of specialized care: Shouldice, ThedaCare, Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, Mayo Clinic
